Founder, Dr. Ilchi Lee
Dr. Ilchi Lee is a world-renowned peace activist and spiritual leader. He is the creator of Dahnhak and Brain Respiration , a comprehensive system of physical and mental exercises that uses the life energy system of the body to attain spiritual awakening. He lectures around the world on topics such as enlightenment, healing society, and world peace, seeking to communicate the idea of an Earth-Human as the basis for a global cultural movement for the creation of earth peace.

Born in 1950 to a family of educators, Dr. Ilchi Lee majored in Clinical Pathology in college, in addition to gaining degrees in Physical Education and Oriental Medicine. After his marriage in 1974, he became more deeply interested in traditional forms of mind-body training. Gaining a deep understanding and appreciation of the brain as a tool for integrating the body - mind - spirit aspects of the human nature, he set out to systemize and organize his experiences and knowledge into Brain Respiration.

The Start of Brain Respiration
Brain Respiration, first taught in a small, local park in Korea, has now over a million members training in more than 450 centers in six countries throughout the world.

The Healing Society
In 1986, Dr. Lee began the "Healing Society" movement in order to expand the "Brain - Peace Philosophy" onto a society-wide stage and use Brain Respiration not only as a tool for individual development but also as an instrument for healing society. By recovering our brain's innate potential for harmony and peace, the Healing Society movement seeks to make peace into both a social and a biological imperative. Currently, thousands of participants in the Healing Society movement are engaged in teaching Brain Respiration.

Brain-based Peace & Power Brain
Dr. Ilchi Lee is perhaps best characterized as a leading activist for a "Brain - Based Peace Movement." This movement's foundational philosophy is that working knowledge of the human brain-the exclusive organ through which human beings can experience and affect reality-must be taken into close consideration when discussing peace. Appreciation of the brain, however, does not mean restricting our understanding to its anatomical or biochemical workings. The purpose of a Brain-Based peace movement is, therefore, to tap into this reservoir of peace potential inside the brain in order to develop a "Power Brain," a brain that is productive, creative, and peaceful. In order to make the achievement of peace in society a reality, we need methods that access both humanities full creative power, and an experiential understanding of the peace for which we strive.

World Earth Human Alliance for Peace
Building upon the "Brain-Peace Philosophy," Dr. Ilchi Lee founded the World Earth Human Alliance for Peace (WEHAP). An international non-profit NGO, WEHAP is a network of groups and individuals working together towards peace through various modalities. In 2000, WEHAP hosted the first Humanity Conference in Seoul, South Korea as a way for these individuals to coordinate their efforts and resources. Prominent speakers at this conference included Maurice Strong, senior advisor to the Secretary General of the UN and president of UN University for Peace; Seymour Topping, administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes and professor at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism; and special guest former U.S. vice-president Al Gore.

WEHAP's ultimate goal is to create a culture of individuals transcending barriers of ethnicity, nationality, and religious affiliation through deep awareness of both our brain's potential and our common heritage as human beings to create a lasting peace on Earth. Such individuals are called Earth Humans.

International Graduate University for Peace
In 2003, Dr. Ilchi Lee realized his life-long dream by founding the International Graduate University for Peace (IGUP). The only higher learning institution in Korea devoted solely to the study, research and implementation of peace, IGUP works in conjunction with other global peace institutions such as University of Peace in Costa Rica.

Currently, Dr. Ilchi Lee is engaged in exploring the most effective ways in which the internet may be used to support the Brain-Based Peace Movement.
